East Point of Curaçao
If you are in search of a beautiful sunrise or the best dive site in Curaçao, you need to head towards the East Point. What makes this dive site so unique is that it has been left the way nature intended it, with little or no human impact. The area is out of reach of small local fishing boats, and there are no roads for shore diving, snorkeling, or the daily sun worshippers. However, it is just a forty-minute boat trip to access the stunning underwater world at East Point.
Curaçao’s fringing reef system, with little or no current and an average water temperature of 27 C/82 F is a perfect location for divers of all levels. The shallows are bright and healthy, covered with stunning star, brain, and boulder corals as well as the endangered staghorn and elkhorn corals. Upon descent, you are sure to drop in on large green morays, lobsters, and channel clinging crabs. The pristine waters let the light through, so it’s easy to follow the slope down to more advanced depths, where you can find leaf lettuce corals flourishing. Rainbow runners, ceros, barracudas, as well as hawksbill and green turtles, are also commonly seen around the reef of this dive site.
