Diving the Bikini Atoll

The best wreck diving destination in the Marshall Islands is Bikini Atoll; some people even consider it the best place for wreck diving in the world, second only to its neighbor, Chuuk Lagoon. Bikini Island is located in the northern part of the Ralik Chain, and it was used in the 1940s and 1950s by the US for nuclear testing, creating a graveyard of WWII vessels that were used as targets. Divers will be thrilled as they explore an actual aircraft-carrier, the USS Saratoga, the USS Apogon submarine, and numerous destroyers and cruisers. Apart from the many shipwrecks you can find, the lagoon contains more marine life than usual due to decades of no fishing activity. Be prepared to spot impressive sharks.
