Diving in Erlaufsee

The 38 meter (125ft)-deep Erlaufsee, about two hours by car from Vienna, is a mountain lake at the foot of the Gemeindealpe near the village of Mitterbach and forms the border between Lower Austria and Styria. Located in a wooded valley, it often offers divers visibility of up to 30 meters (98ft), especially in spring and autumn. Countless flooded trees, a steep wall, and an abundance of fish such as lake trout, grayling, pike, perch, rudd, and char are typical of this mountain lake. The diving zone extends from the southwestern (Styrian) part of the lake at kilometer 3.1 of the Erlaufsee to the confluence of the Steinbach.
