Diving in Hemmoor

Hemmoor Kreidesee is a flooded opencast chalk mine set in the Lower Saxon town of Hemmoor, just 80km (50 miles) from Hamburg. It covers an area of 33 hectares (82 acres) and is 60 meters (200ft) deep. During fine weather, the visibility can increase up to 25 meters (82ft), which means you can really explore the artificial reefs. Cars and small boats make for great wrecks and you can even follow the old roads that used to access the mine. The temperature hovers around 14C (57F) and is advisable to wear a dry suit.
