Bornhorster See

The small Bornhorster See, also known as “Borni“ to us divers, is a fishing, diving and bathing lake with a maximum depth of 16m that was dug out for the construction of the motorway. One of the entrances can be reached from the car park via a forest path about 100m long. Visibility varies between 3-5m.

Kreide-See is a well known and popular diving lake. In former times chalk was mined here. The roads, the vibrator, trucks, conveyor belts, and some machines that were needed for the mining can still be visited underwater.

The chalk lake, artificially created by opencast mining, has an area of 33 hectares and a maximum depth of 60 meters. Visibility of up to 25 meters is possible under favorable conditions (longer dry periods). Lots of abandoned mining gear and items sunk especially for divers.
