Earth Day - Help 1 Billion People Restore Our Earth
April 19, 2021
The founders of Earth Day are on a mission to empower and expand the global environmental movement – starting with you! On 22nd April, join over 1 billion participants around the world and take action to Restore Our Earth.
What is Earth Day?
Earth Day is the world’s largest civic event and the first Earth Day in 1970 launched the modern environmental movement. By the end of that first year, Earth Day led to the creation of the United States Environmental Protection Agency and first of their kind environmental laws.
Since that incredible time, EARTHDAY.ORG has gone from strength to strength and works with more than 75,000 partners in over 190 countries!
With Earth Day 2021 nearly upon us, it is your turn to get involved and put the 2021 theme ‘Restore Our Earth’ into action.
"It is up to each and every one of us to Restore Our Earth not just because we care about the natural world, but because we live on it. We all need a healthy Earth to support our jobs, livelihoods, health & survival, and happiness. A healthy planet is not an option — it is a necessity." - EARTHDAY.ORG
How can I get involved in Earth Day?
With events being hosted worldwide, it is easy to get involved in Earth Day wherever you live. Here are the top ways to support Earth Day in 2021:
1. Host a teach-in.
One of the best ways to help protect our planet is by learning and sharing knowledge with your community, so they are empowered to make positive environmental change. Hosting a Teach-In for Earth Day is a great way to get started!
EARTHDAY.ORG is looking for people to host Teach-In events about these important topics:
- Climate literacy
- Plastic pollution
- Biodiversity loss
- Water and air quality
- Freshwater and forest ecosystem services
Their
free Teach-In Grab Bags contain everything you need to host a teach-in event, including learning material for each subject, speaker ideas and how to organize an event.
Whether you want to create an event at your local school, for your dive club, or simply for your family and friends, it could not be easier to get involved.

2. Organize a cleanup.
Whether you pick up one piece of litter or bags of trash, every action helps. This Earth Day, take action by cleaning up our planet in three fun and different ways.
Organize a group cleanup and make a visible change to your local environment. The
Great Global Cleanup has all you need to organize a small group cleanup, including safety information. Just remember to check your local COVID-19 guidelines before making any plans.
Do not want to organize your own cleanup? No problem! You can find and join existing cleanups on the
Cleanup Map.
One person can have a big impact and every
individual cleanup makes a difference. Get started by having a cleanup at home – look at what waste you create, remove single-use items and make a plan to use sustainable alternatives. Or get outside and pick up litter in your local area with your family.
If you are feeling extra keen,
try plogging – picking up litter when you go jogging! It is a fun way to get some exercise and clean up your community at the same time.
